Football icon Stuart Pearce has been released from hospital after a frightening health incident on a flight across the Atlantic at 30,000 feet.
The former England defender and now sports commentator was released from medical care in Canada after an eight-day hospital stay and is preparing to return home.
Fans have shown their support for Pearce, nicknamed “Psycho,” after reports emerged about his illness during a Virgin Atlantic flight from Las Vegas to London Heathrow.
The 62-year-old became unwell, experiencing profuse sweating and severe pain on Flight VS156, while being monitored.
Flight attendants provided initial assistance to Pearce as his partner looked on during the ordeal.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, the flight was diverted to St John’s in Newfoundland, where Pearce was assisted off the aircraft and taken to a hospital.
Pearce, who previously played for Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Manchester City, received continuous medical attention during his hospital stay.
During the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City on Saturday, fans honored Pearce with a minute’s applause in the third minute of the game, referencing his former jersey number.
Sam Matterface, a colleague from talkSPORT, mentioned that he spoke with Pearce and that he was in good spirits but still recovering.
Pearce was on his way back from Las Vegas, where he had watched Warrington Wolves play Wigan Warriors in the first Super League rugby match held in the United States.
