Stamp Fairtex is making a comeback to compete for the atomweight title against Denice Zamboanga. Their unification fight is scheduled for ONE 173, which will take place in Denver at Ball Arena on August 1st.
ONE Championship officials announced this fight to MMA Fighting.
Stamp has become a prominent figure in ONE Championship, known for her exciting fighting style. Unfortunately, a knee injury before her planned June 2024 fight prevented her from potentially becoming a two-division champion.
Originally, Stamp was supposed to fight Zamboanga in June and then challenge Xiong Jingnan for the strawweight title in September. However, a severe knee injury during training forced her to have surgery.
ONE CEO Chatri Sityodgong mentioned that Stamp suffered a significant meniscus tear in her knee during a takedown in training, which led to her withdrawal from upcoming fights.
Now recovered, Stamp is ready to fight again and is excited to compete in front of American fans.
Stamp expressed her happiness about fighting in the U.S. again. She was initially meant to face Denice last year but was injured. She is thrilled that they will finally fight for the belt. Stamp was impressed by the support from U.S. fans at ONE Fight Night 10 and is eager to perform for them at ONE 173 in August.
While Stamp was recovering, Zamboanga won against Noelle Grandjean in June and then defeated Alyona Rassohyna in January to become the interim atomweight champion.
Zamboanga will now have her opportunity to unify the atomweight titles against Stamp. Their fight is rescheduled for August when ONE Championship returns to Denver for its third event there.
More fights are expected to be added to the ONE 173: Denver card in the coming weeks, and tickets will be available for purchase soon.
