Propper was retreating to defend against a pass intended for Dusan Tadic.
The Dutch defender positioned his body between Tadic and the ball near the edge of the Rangers penalty area, but Butland rushed out, suggesting a communication breakdown.
Although Propper was under pressure, Butland could have stayed on his line to head the ball back to Propper or clear it.
Butland opted to charge out and head the ball (as he was outside the box and couldn’t use his hands), inadvertently headbutting Propper in the process.
Propper fell to the ground in pain, and medical staff immediately attended to him, concerned about a potential concussion or more serious injury.
At the time of the incident, Rangers were leading 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Cyriel Dessers.
Due to the head injury, Propper was substituted in the 28th minute for Leon Balogun. Rangers then switched to a back three formation in Istanbul.
Shortly after Propper’s substitution, Rangers conceded a goal from a corner.
Alexander Djiku, who replaced Çağlar Söyüncü as a substitute, scored at the far post to equalize for Fenerbahce.
The collision left Rangers fans worried about Propper’s condition.

Fans commented on the incident, expressing concern for Propper and questioning Butland’s actions, hoping Propper was not seriously injured and describing Butland’s play as reckless and wild, but ultimately accidental.
