Former world No. 3 tennis player, Nadia Petrova, has shared her thoughts on the potential performance of young Russian players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider at the Indian Wells tournament.
Petrova noted the change in court surface this year, suggesting that if the courts are indeed faster and less grippy, combined with the high altitude, it will lead to quicker gameplay. This kind of environment would favor players who possess a powerful style of tennis, those comfortable approaching the net, and athletes who perform well on grass courts.
Regarding Andreeva and Shnaider’s chances of advancing far in the tournament, Petrova stated it’s difficult to predict. She believes success might come to the player who is least expected to perform well and under the least pressure. Petrova pointed out that Mirra Andreeva faces a challenging draw and will need to be at her best from the beginning. However, she thinks Diana Shnaider could potentially benefit from the fast court conditions and high altitude.
