Alex Pereira is raising the stakes for his UFC 313 title fight against Magomed Ankalaev in Las Vegas. He has challenged Ankalaev and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, to a significant $200,000 bet.
Pereira, aiming for his fourth light heavyweight title defense on March 8th at the T-Mobile Arena, used social media on Sunday night to challenge Ankalaev. He proposed a $200,000 bet on himself, with the loser donating the money to charity.
In a video posted online, Pereira stated his bet of $200,000 would be donated to children in need, specifically those with cancer. He believes that many people require this help. Pereira suggested that since Ali and Ankalaev are very confident in Ankalaev’s victory, they should accept this challenge.
Pereira encouraged fans to tag Ankalaev and Abdelaziz in the comments. He also mentioned that Ankalaev could choose a charity in his home country, and Pereira would donate directly to that organization if he loses at UFC 313.
Pereira questioned if they would accept the bet, given their confidence in winning. He emphasized that they should bet if they are so sure of victory.
Pereira, who is undefeated since moving to light heavyweight in July 2023 and has won his last five fights, clarified that offering the bet doesn’t mean he is certain to win. Instead, he is challenging Ankalaev to back up his words with money.
Pereira considers himself a grounded person and is aware of his words. He explained that in all interviews before fights, he expresses his desire to win but acknowledges uncertainty about the outcome. Despite this, he is willing to bet $200,000. He stated it’s up to Ankalaev and his manager to consider the challenge and even suggested a sponsor could contribute the $200,000 for Ankalaev to make the bet.
Pereira reiterated that he wants to win, but acknowledges the possibility of defeat. However, he finds comfort in knowing that even if he loses the fight, many people in need, especially those with cancer, will benefit from the charitable donation. He concluded by reiterating his challenge to Ankalaev and Ali Abdelaziz.
Ankalaev responded to the bet on Twitter, saying they would reply the next day and wished everyone Ramadan Mubarak.
