According to John Terry, Chelsea’s iconic former captain, Cole Palmer is setting a leadership example at Chelsea through his performances on the pitch.
Terry is impressed by Palmer’s contributions, even though the forward hasn’t scored in the last couple of matches.
Terry, who is now a coach at Chelsea’s academy, has observed Palmer’s influence firsthand. He mentioned how Palmer outperformed his teammates in a recent fitness test during training.
Terry noted that Palmer might not see himself as a traditional leader, but he leads by setting high standards. He demonstrates the fitness level required to excel, encouraging others to follow suit.
“He leads in his own way, which is common among many players today,” Terry explained.
“Leadership isn’t always about being the loudest voice; it’s often demonstrated through actions. Palmer exemplifies this,” Terry added.
He emphasized Palmer’s significant impact, especially during Chelsea’s better spells this season. Palmer’s goals, contributions, and work rate were central to Chelsea’s positive performances.
“Opponents have recognized his threat and are focusing on containing him, which has coincided with Chelsea’s overall form dipping,” Terry suggested.
Palmer had been in contention for the Premier League Golden Boot, having scored 14 goals. However, his goalscoring form has declined recently, mirroring Chelsea’s team performance, who were once considered title contenders.
Despite missing a penalty in a recent match against Leicester, it was revealed that Palmer insisted on playing despite feeling unwell.
Terry concluded, “While Palmer might not be in peak form currently, his quality is undeniable, and he remains a fantastic asset for us.”
“I have no doubt he will return to his best. He possesses incredible talent and will continue to prove it.”
