Paige VanZant, formerly a UFC fighter, is succeeding in slap fighting. She won her recent match at Power Slap 12 on Friday.
After a draw in her previous fight due to a foul, the 30-year-old competed at her more comfortable weight of 125 pounds. She switched to using her right hand for striking instead of her left. Although this didn’t result in a knockout, VanZant won a clear decision against Mikael-Michelle Brown, with all judges scoring it 30-27.
Following this victory, VanZant urged Dana White, the creator of Power Slap, to introduce women’s championship titles. She hopes to be the first to compete for a title in her next fight.
VanZant expressed her excitement about the win, saying it felt “incredible.” She mentioned switching to her right hand but plans to return to her left hand for future matches, as she feels it’s more powerful.
She directly addressed Dana White, asking about the 125-pound belt and requesting to be on the next card to compete for women’s titles. She asserted that women are in Power Slap to stay and “knock bitches out.”
VanZant won because she delivered stronger slaps, even though neither fighter was knocked down.
She landed more solid hits, but felt her right hand wasn’t as powerful as her left. However, VanZant was more accurate and powerful in her strikes, while Brown struggled to connect effectively.
This performance secured VanZant’s victory, bringing her Power Slap record to 2 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw.
VanZant is busy with opportunities in Power Slap, BKFC, and GFL. Additionally, her husband Austin Vanderford recently joined the UFC and won his debut fight at UFC Seattle.
