Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios discussed his retirement during his opening match at the Indian Wells Masters. The Australian tennis player stopped playing while trailing 6-7(7), 0-3 against Botic van de Zandschulp.
“Okay, I lost. It’s happened a lot in my career. Right now, it’s about the amount of work. I still have strong pain in my wrist. I think that’s why I got a little emotional at the end, because it’s one of my favorite tournaments,” Kyrgios said in the press conference.
Kyrgios also spoke about his wrist injury, noting that there hasn’t been a case in tennis of someone trying to play after undergoing similar wrist surgery.
