Nick Kyrgios, the Wimbledon 2022 finalist, has spoken about the difficult period in his career following his early withdrawal from the Masters tournament in Indian Wells. In the first round, the Australian player retired from his match against Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands when the score was 6-7(7), 0-3.
“I had an amazing season, I was on the verge of a Grand Slam victory, and then I was pulled back. I practically have no ranking now, I was sidelined for a year and a half, and now I’m trying to make a comeback. It’s tough for me not to think about how well I was playing back then,” Kyrgios stated during a press conference.
In the second round of the Indian Wells Masters, Botic van de Zandschulp is scheduled to play against world No. 7, Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
