World No. 11 Mirra Andreeva shared her emotions after defeating Clara Tauson in the third round of the Indian Wells tournament with a score of 6-3, 6-0. This is her second consecutive victory over the Danish player, having previously met in the final of the Dubai ‘thousand’ tournament.
– Could you please tell us, considering both the previous match with Tauson and this one, what is the difference? I understand that the previous one was a final, and this one is not, but from your feelings?
– I would say that last time when we played in Dubai, I was five times more nervous than today, but I felt that she was also more nervous today for some reason. And she made a lot of unforced errors, which helped me to get an early break and generally be ahead in the score almost all the time. So I felt that I was dominating the match, and she was helping me to do it with her mistakes. Therefore, I decided, well, okay, let her make mistakes, I like it. And that’s how it turned out today.
– Evening session on the central court is already a usual thing for you. Nevertheless, how should the training process be structured before your big match day?
– Previously, we used to train, meaning we warmed up twice before the match if I play in the evening, but now, maybe I’m getting old, maybe something else, I don’t know, I don’t want to train twice. We get up, I get enough sleep, then we go to the gym, where I do various exercises for joint mobility for about 40-50 minutes, then I do the bicycle, then I go back to the room to rest, then we warm up, and then I get ready for the match, do all the tapes, hairstyles, try to dress nicely. And then we have a little bit left, maybe 20-30 minutes, with the team, we like to play UNO there, just talk, so that’s how the day goes.
– Timothy Chalamet was in the stands, that’s great, judging by your reaction?
– Yes! Actually, it was, I think, 1/1 in the first set, and I looked at the screen – the only time I decided to look at the screen during the match – and I see Timothy Chalamet and Kylie Jenner being shown, and I think: ‘Oh no, why did I look there!’ But in general, I would say that it gave me a little more motivation, because I decided: they came, they are watching, so, Mirra, do everything you can, you need to win today, you definitely need to win, you need to do everything you can, come on.
And somehow it happened that I won, and in principle, played well, so I am very glad that they saw it. I don’t think they came to see me specifically, I think they most likely went to watch the boys, the night session, but I am also pleased that they came to my match.
– And who else would you invite from the superstars? Let’s name three.
– I would invite Ryan Gosling. I would invite girls, probably Emma Stone. I’ve liked her lately too. And Roger Federer, he is on all my lists! – said Andreeva in an interview.
