World No. 35 Matteo Berrettini has reminisced about his victory over 24-time Grand Slam champion and world No. 7 Novak Djokovic in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Doha, Qatar. The Italian player secured a win with a score of 7-6(4), 6-2.
“I’ve lost to him at the biggest tournaments, including the Wimbledon final. But I am always proud to have competed against him, Rafa, and Roger. This is something that will stay with me forever. I am proud to have won against Novak, playing truly better than him,” said Berrettini, as quoted by Punto de Break.
Berrettini and Djokovic are both scheduled to participate in the Masters series tournament in Indian Wells, featuring a prize fund exceeding $13 million, set to take place from March 5th to 16th.
