World No. 25 Lyudmila Samsonova shared her thoughts on the court conditions at the Indian Wells Masters tournament after her second-round victory against Katie McNally.
Samsonova mentioned that playing in the evening without sunlight made the conditions more challenging. She explained, “It was tough because I played without the sun, in the evening, and the conditions are much harder because of that. I haven’t practiced in the evening yet.”
Reflecting on her practice sessions, she initially felt the courts were faster this year. “When I practiced here for a week before the start of the tournament, it really seemed to me that the courts became faster than in previous years. But during the match, it was very, very slow.”
Samsonova believes the absence of sun contributed to the slower pace. “I think that the lack of sun influenced it.” Despite the slower conditions, she remains positive about playing in Indian Wells. “Overall, I like it here. Yes, the courts are slow, but I am capable of adapting to them,” Samsonova stated in an interview.
