Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly considering turning down a new contract offer from Manchester United.
It is understood that the academy graduate is open to a move overseas.
Manchester United began discussions about a new contract last year, but they have not yet been successful.
Mainoo’s current contract with Manchester United has two years remaining.
However, sources suggest he is prepared to leave United and explore new opportunities.
According to reports, the 20-year-old is interested in playing in a league outside of England.
Despite this, Manchester United is believed to be optimistic that Mainoo will agree to a new contract.
However, the club would consider selling the England international if necessary.
Manchester United would want at least £70 million for the midfielder, who became a first-team player under manager Erik ten Hag.
Mainoo is currently among the lowest-paid players at Manchester United, earning around £20,000 per week.
His representatives want his salary to be increased to reflect his importance to the team.
Recently, Manchester United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, acknowledged that Mainoo could be sold to help the club’s financial situation.
He stated, “Our intention is always to keep our best players, but we are aware of the club’s difficult financial situation.”
“I am very pleased with Kobbie – he is constantly improving.”
“My players are always my favorites, and I always want to keep them, especially the talented ones.”
Amorim has challenged Mainoo to earn a higher salary, saying, “Kobbie has improved significantly in recent games.”
“But I think people see him as a finished product – he is not.”
“He is very good but has the potential to be even better. He has a lot of room to grow.”
Mainoo and his Manchester United teammates will play against Arsenal on Sunday at Old Trafford.
