“I’m a grappler now,” Bahomondes joked after his victory. He added, “I knew I was going to submit him. I predicted a first-round submission in interviews. I had a dream about submitting him. I felt like his focus was off tonight. I want to fight whoever will bring me closer to the belt next.”
At the beginning of the fight, Turner advanced to the center of the octagon, initiating forward pressure, while Bahomondes responded with sharp kicks. Turner then attempted a takedown, possibly aiming to demonstrate his improved grappling skills after a previous disappointing performance at UFC 300.
Although Turner’s takedown attempt initially seemed promising, Bahomondes quickly scrambled and secured the triangle choke by locking his legs around Turner. With the submission locked in, Turner was compelled to tap out.
This victory marks Bahomondes’ third consecutive win and improves his record to 6-1 in his last seven fights. He is expected to face ranked opponents in his upcoming matches.
Following the fight, Turner removed his gloves, suggesting potential retirement contemplation after this disappointing outcome. This loss comes after an 11-month layoff, adding to the challenges he faced leading into UFC 313.
