After Paddy Pimblett reacted to Dustin Poirier’s thoughts about retirement and then stated he could beat the former interim lightweight champion, fans are taking Poirier’s side.
Leading up to his important co-main event fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 314 on April 12 in Miami, Paddy Pimblett spoke with ESPN. When asked about Poirier considering one last fight, Pimblett said Poirier “must be an idiot.” To be fair, Pimblett explained this comment by saying Poirier looked very competitive against lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a fifth-round submission loss at UFC 302 this past June.
Furthermore, Pimblett concluded his reaction by saying, “I think I beat Dustin Poirier, so I’d love to fight him.” This fight could be logical from a competitive perspective if Pimblett defeats Chandler, handing him his third loss in a row.
Based on fan reactions, it seems many disagree with Pimblett’s prediction about a potential fight with Poirier, as well as his opinion on Poirier’s retirement plans.
