Frenchman Fabrice Santoro, a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion, shared his thoughts on the career of Swiss tennis player and former world No. 3, Stan Wawrinka.
Santoro stated in the Air Open podcast, “The titles speak for themselves: Stan was better than Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, and Simon. If you had asked me at the beginning of his career if I thought so, I would have said ‘no’. But now, with three Grand Slam titles, yes. Stan was better. Is he more talented than Jo or Gael? No. Is he a stronger player? Yes. That’s undeniable.”
39-year-old Wawrinka is the 2008 Olympic champion and a three-time Grand Slam singles winner (Australian Open 2014, French Open 2015, US Open 2016). French tennis players Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gilles Simon (retired), Richard Gasquet, and Gael Monfils have never won a major tournament.
