Former French international Jeremy Menez was reportedly asked to leave Anfield stadium last night because he was supporting Paris Saint-Germain against Liverpool on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old traveled to England to watch his former team play against Arne Slot’s Liverpool for a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.
PSG were down 1-0 on aggregate before the game, but Ousmane Dembele equalized just 12 minutes into the match at Anfield.
After 120 minutes, the score was still tied, leading to a penalty shootout where Paris Saint-Germain won.
However, it’s claimed that Menez missed PSG’s victory because he was removed from the stadium.
Former Premier League midfielder Samir Nasri mentioned on French TV channel Canal Plus: “Let’s spare a thought for those who were also ejected from the stadium.”
“Jeremy Menez was at the game and when asked if he was French, after he replied, they asked him to leave the stadium… around the 70th minute!”
Menez played 110 games for PSG over three years during his professional career.
During his time there, he scored 19 goals and provided 37 assists.
The forward also played for teams like Monaco, Roma, AC Milan, and Bordeaux before retiring last year.
After Tuesday’s match, PSG coach Luis Enrique commented: “Both teams deserved to advance to the next round.”
“They played better than us here, but I believe my team at Anfield, in a special stadium, demonstrated great personality and character.
“We tried our best, but it was challenging because they are very intense. Both teams deserved to qualify.”
“The character and personality, even in the penalty shootout, they showed great character. I think it clearly shows the team we are.”
