Former President Donald Trump, known for his interest in UFC, discussed the sport even during a meeting with the Irish prime minister.
On Wednesday, Trump met with Taoiseach Micheál Martin as part of engagements around St. Patrick’s Day. While they discussed trade and tariffs, Trump also spoke about the UFC.
Speaking to reporters, Trump praised Conor McGregor, a former UFC champion in two weight divisions, and expressed admiration for Irish fighters in general.
“I like your fighter, he has very impressive tattoos,” Trump said. “Conor is great. Ireland has many great fighters because they are tough, smart, and passionate people.”
McGregor has long supported Trump, even attending his inauguration in Washington D.C. earlier this year. McGregor had previously celebrated Trump’s re-election, anticipating his second term.
While praising McGregor, Trump has also shown support for Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of McGregor’s rivals.
Last November, Trump called Nurmagomedov his “favorite fighter,” which McGregor criticized. However, McGregor still attended Trump’s inauguration, alongside UFC figures like Dana White, Jon Jones, and others.
