Palmer, 22, was included in the club’s Conference League squad for the knockout stages.

He was on the winning team in the match despite a strong challenge from the home side.

Reece James opened the scoring in the 46th minute before Enzo Fernandes increased the lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute.

It was after the Argentine’s goal that Palmer celebrated with a beer.

A cup of beer was thrown onto the pitch from the crowd as the England international joined his teammates.

He was seen playfully holding the plastic cup in front of Trevoh Chalobah.

Fans on social media loved Palmer’s reaction.

One fan posted: “Raise that beer high! You all deserve it! Congrats.”

Another wrote: “This is class I can’t lie.”

A third commented: “Cole Palmer raising a cup of beer after the second goal.”

Palmer finished the match without scoring or assisting, continuing his recent dip in form.

He was substituted in the 72nd minute and replaced by Jadon Sancho.

He has not contributed a goal or assist since scoring against Bournemouth on January 14.

After the win over Southampton, he released a short statement insisting that he “will be back”.

This season, he has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Chelsea allowed Copenhagen to score before the end of the game, with Gabriel Periera scoring a header.

Manager Enzo Maresca expressed his disappointment about the conceded goal.

He said: “It was a somewhat careless goal.”

“We could have avoided it. But it’s football, these things happen.”

“Now the first 90 minutes are over, and we have another 90 minutes against them.”

“The main focus for us is Sunday’s game at home, and we need our fans to support the team for 100 minutes and push us forward.”

“If we can beat Leicester on Sunday, it will be another step towards finishing in the Champions League… top four or top five, I’m not sure.”
