Canelo Alvarez approves of TKO’s expansion into the boxing world.

This week, Dana White, CEO of UFC, and Turki Alalshikh announced their agreement to launch a new boxing league under the TKO banner. While details are still emerging, the announcement is considered significant for boxing, and Alvarez supports this initiative.

Alvarez stated in an interview with CBS Sports’ Brian Campbell, “If it’s beneficial for the fighters, I support it.” He added, “I believe TKO will prioritize the fighters’ interests, which is important because many promoters neglect fighter welfare. This development is good for boxing and especially for the fighters.”

Canelo Alvarez, a prominent figure in boxing, recently signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Alalshikh. The current unified super middleweight champion aims to become undisputed when he faces William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh Season. Alvarez suggested that his subsequent fight in September could potentially be the inaugural major event promoted by TKO.

“There’s always an opportunity to fight in September in Las Vegas,” Alvarez mentioned. “Those are my dates, and everyone is aware of that. However, my focus is on the May fight first, and then we will consider September. There is a possibility for my September fight in Las Vegas to be the first event under the TKO promotion.”

With an impressive record of 62-2-2, Alvarez remains a top-ranked pound-for-pound boxer. His most recent victory was a unanimous decision defense of his unified titles against Edgar Berlanga in September.
