Callum Walsh maintained his perfect professional boxing record by delivering a first-round knockout on Sunday night at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The promising 24-year-old boxer from Ireland now boasts a 13-0 record, with 11 of those wins coming by knockout. He defeated Dean Sutherland in the first round, defending his WBC Continental Americas super welterweight title in the process.
Walsh, who had a significant amateur career with 44 wins and 9 losses, had previously finished only three professional fights in the first round, all within his initial three matches between 2021 and 2022.
Dana White, CEO of UFC, has ventured into the boxing scene, co-promoting Walsh’s fight with promoter Tom Loefller. The event was broadcast on UFC’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. White is now deeply involved in boxing, with UFC’s parent company TKO partnering with Saudi Arabian sports promoter Turki Alalshikh to launch a new boxing league.
“This model has proven successful in delivering the fights fans are eager to see,” White stated during the announcement. “The best fighters will compete against each other, progress in rankings, and aim for world championships.
