Brunno Ferreira showcased his versatile combat abilities at UFC 313.
Known more for his knockout power than his jiu-jitsu expertise, Ferreira achieved his first submission victory in the UFC, defeating Armen Petrosyan with a smooth armbar finish on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The preliminary middleweight bout was action-packed. Ferreira knocked down Petrosyan in the first round and gained an advantage when Petrosyan hit him with two low blows in quick succession. After the second low blow, referee Mark Smith penalized Petrosyan with a point deduction, potentially giving Ferreira a 10-8 round.
In the second round, Petrosyan complained about a low blow after a body punch from Ferreira, although replays suggested the strike landed on Petrosyan’s side. Ultimately, this became irrelevant as Ferreira took Petrosyan down and transitioned into a fight-ending submission.
Ferreira (13-2) improves his UFC record to 4-2, with his previous three wins all being knockouts. Petrosyan (9-5) now has a three-fight losing streak, with all losses occurring before the third round.
