Olympic bronze medalist Brad Gilbert has joined former German tennis star Boris Becker in criticizing Spanish football player Gerard Pique’s proposal to alter tennis rules.

Gilbert agreed with Becker, stating, “Totally agree with Becker. It’s like we want to change football,” in response to Becker’s statement that Pique “should not discuss the future of tennis.”

Pique had suggested introducing a golden point at 40-40 and removing the second serve, arguing that spectators are not interested in the current game and the pauses during serves.

Gerard Pique has had connections to tennis through his investment company Kosmos. In August 2018, the former Barcelona player’s holding company signed a sponsorship agreement with the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The contract, valued at $3 billion over 25 years, made Kosmos the main investor in the revamped Davis Cup. However, the agreement was terminated in January 2023.
